Saunders College of Business Merit Scholarships
Available for Graduate and Undergraduate
Each year many generous alumni and corporate donors contribute funds to dozens of College of Business merit scholarships. These donations enable the Saunders College to distribute merit scholarship awards to E. Philip Saunders College of Business students who have demonstrated strong leadership abilities and who have excelled within their academic programs.
If you are a Saunders College of Business student and if you meet the criteria below, you are strongly encouraged to complete an application for a Saunders College of Business merit scholarship award. Awards are typically between $500 and $2,000 and will be distributed during the 2008-2009 academic year.
Undergraduate Scholarship Criteria:
- Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20.
- Applicants must have earned a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 164 credit hours from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
- Awardees must be enrolled in a Saunders College of Business undergraduate program during the 2007-2008 academic year.
- PREP students are not eligible for COB merit scholarship awards.
Graduate Scholarship Criteria:
Scholarships and assistantships are awarded based on merit for the Saunders College of Business graduate programs. Awards are determined at the time of acceptance.
A scholarship is a financial award given to a student and is posted directly towards their tuition bill. Most Saunders College of Business scholarships are for a maximum of 6 full time quarters.
An assistantship is an award that allows the student an opportunity to work with a faculty or a professional staff member. During the quarter, the student would work with them on projects, research, benchmarking, and various other tasks. Students receive a paycheck for the hours worked as a Graduate Assistant.
Factors that are weighed awards are:
- The applicant’s undergraduate institution and GPA
- The applicant’s GMAT score
- The applicant’s work experience
Awards typically are for full time students only and range from 25% - 70% of total tuition.
International students are eligible for merit awards and are encouraged to apply.

M&T Bank Scholars Program at RIT
The M&T Bank Scholars Program provides a scholarship and work opportunity for one selected incoming student entering the E. Philip Saunders College of Business in 2008-2009 academic year.
The three key elements of this program are funding in the form of a scholarship during the four years of the students' undergraduate academic program, a mentoring program that provides assistance with career decision making and planning, and guaranteed summer work in the financial field, typically in one of the local M&T branch locations.
To be considered for this outstanding opportunity, candidates must be a traditional minority student from the Rochester area with a sincere interest in the business field, who have been accepted into the E. Philip Saunders College of Business. Candidates should also have an excellent academic record with demonstrated leadership through school or community involvement.
This program is an excellent way for the right student to gain experience as well as an opportunity to have financial assistance for their bachelor's education.
